UH OH! THE DOG'S EYES SAY IT ALL

You have to love the look on this dog's face. How can you not? He or she has done something really bad and got caught! That look reminds me of some former students I had in the second grade when they had done something way wrong. Heads bent down, pitiful eyes and you just knew that!  Reminds me of my sons' look when they were little. You come to recognize that "look" when you see it. Could be guilt, pity or maybe sadness but trust me, it's guilt! Plain as day.

The eyes say it all. Course the tilt of the dog's head makes us pity him or her even more. Kids are really good at doing the very same thing. Come to think of it, so are adults!

Next time you see your pet or child or some adult with a look like this, you instinctly know something bad has happened. And you know you have to suffer the consequences.
And oh how many times have I done that with the dogs and cats I've had over the years? Millions. And how many times with my then-little sons? More millions.

Still, we love that look: It beckons us to react which is what the animal or person intended in the first place.
And the reaction they want is forgiveness.
So I would advise all to take a really good look at how you would react--be calm first for things might not be as bad as they seem.
Trust me I know!

  1. Thanks for reminding us that there's grace in the acceptance of OTHERS' "little boo-boos" (and of OUR OWN, too).
